New Color Trend: Rich & Deep Browns

10/9/20242 min read

This fall, brown is dominating; runways, interior design trends, and even exterior color schemes too. From warm chocolate brown hues to deep cool browns. Many of my clients say that brown is the new black and I couldn't agree more. It is luxurious without being harsh. It can be dark without looking pitch-black or cold. It's just so versatile!

Recently, my clients have been asking for dark browns for their home's exterior body or trim. We live in Northern California, so there's an abundance of redwood trees and well, brown just blends in so nicely around here. I had a client come in this week asking for a brown on brown exterior scheme on her Ukiah home. We found some beautiful browns with slight orange undertones to compliment her copper roof. The scheme is such a dark, warm and almost cabin like feel. As soon as they're done painting, she'll send photos my way, and I'll post them below but for now, I'll post images of some rich moody browns that have the same feel.

Are browns the new black?

While browns are often overlooked because they can make a space look outdated or antiqued, there's so many great browns that will have your space looking more modern, warmer and visually enjoyable. Having the right space, surface and scheme is so crucial when working with browns or woods, so please consider making a physical mood board (with sample slabs) when working with rich, dark browns.

Below are some color schemes I've put together; Know that the colors' hues aren't exact but give you a rather good idea of the color - also know that colors are subject to change depending on the digital screen you're viewing images from.
